21st July 2017 - Ironman UK 2017

So here we go again – Ironman UK 2017.

It was a very emotional day for me as for the first time in 3 years, I was on the other side of the fence supporting my athletes rather than being one.

Each one of them arrived at the start line with more than enough physical and psychological training to get to the finish line. I felt their pain, tiredness and happiness every step of the way and seeing how strong they were and finishing in fantastic times made me a very proud coach.

It’s hard work this spectating thing though – I might have to train for it next year. I was there at 5 in the morning to check in with everyone before they started and was still there at the end of the run shaking my cowbell at everyone 14 hours later – the smiles, hugs and high-5’s made it all worthwhile though.

Anyway, here’s what my athletes had to say:

Marc – 1st Ironman – Swim 1:23:40, Bike 6:48:25, Run 4:50:54, Total 13:29:37.

"IMUK done and dusted and another tick on the bucket list. This would not have been possible without your help Pat. You are a great coach and truly inspirational guy. You not only have great knowledge but you always go above and beyond what would be expected from a reasonable person: at IMUK 2017 you were there at 5am offering last minute encouragement and later running tirelessly up Chorley Road ringing your bell and offering much needed encouragement. Yesterday meant an awful lot to me becoming an IRONMAN but also having you there too - great guy and fantastic coach."

Gary – 1st Ironman – Swim 1:17:16, Bike 6:55:56, Run 5:01:19, Total 13:40:51.

"Thanks for all your support today Pat. Really struggled through miles 15-18 but came out the other side. Thanks for everything over the past 10 months. I couldn’t have done it without you."

Stephen – 1st Ironman – Swim 1:24:58, Bike 7:19:23, Run 5:17:12, Total 14:35:06.

"Cheers Pat. You’re help, knowledge and advice have been brilliant – thank you."
